Be as it may, I was looking out the window and was wondering of the years passed and my own behavior. It was like a self assessment. Every time we do something that is more along the lines of how Christ would have us to be, we have been taught that we are closer to Him. It's a good thing. It is fantastic! It is motivational and keeps us on the straight path - right?
You see, I recall there have been times where I have been angry and would've liked to react according to the way I felt. I also realize that every heart will be tested with new information. We are to use the new information learned in scripture, church, or from a sermon on TV. It is God teaching us more of His ways. So that when the time comes, and He looks upon the earth to gather the church, He will be looking for those that look more like Him and not the world. Because, as we know, a friend of the world is an enemy to God (James 4:4 AMP).
Yet, when we tried, it was so difficult. How many times have we failed in doing what is right. Feeling like crap, we retreat to the sanctuary that has assisted with life lessons - the church. And we learn that if we keep the flesh crucified daily then the new information will be easier to use and if that wasn't enough of a boost, just understand with every new thing we do, we are building our treasure in heaven (Galatians 5:24-25 AMP). That's right...it's not only the right thing to do and making God smile but we get a treasure in heaven too (Matthew 6:19-21 AMP). Does that make us feel better? Can we do the right thing now? Is apologizing for that terrible thing you did seem not so difficult anymore? Really, what made it easier this time as opposed to before? Was it the treasure? No! Say it
isn't so!!!
I don't know why I didn't see this before other than immaturity. Let's look at that treasure, shall we? I don't mean the contents of the hope chest but the contents of what's in your chest - your heart (James 5:5 AMP). How can treasure be our motivation? We know that the love of money is the root of all evil. We are not doing good to make coin. That's what the world thinks we are doing. We are doing good for God to be pleased. The treasure is one of the details that comes with the house. A pillow to a bed, water coming out of a faucet, a banister for a staircase, and so forth. But if you have to think treasure in its purest form to get you to where you need to be, think of it as God does. His treasure are the souls received in His kingdom. Is that what your were thinking too? That's rhetorical. Let's just nod and keep it moving.
